Aksel van der Wal is Chief Operations Officer WarnerMedia International overseeing Data Strategy, Technology, Operations, Innovation and Product. He has a remit to drive profitable growth through consumer centric and data driven initiatives. His responsibilities include WarnerMedia’s international multi-platform suite of digital properties and services and its direct to consumer product strategy, which is his main focus. He is also responsible for part of the company’s international Technology & Operations organization.
Van der Wal was previously Executive Vice President, Digital Ventures & Innovation – International, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Turner International, overseeing all finance, technology and operations across Turner internationally, across its diverse portfolio of news, kids and general entertainment brands. Prior to that, he was Turner’s senior vice president of finance for its EMEA business.
Before joining Turner in January 2014, he worked for three years and served as chief executive officer at Time Out. Before that, he was chief financial officer at leading online ticket exchange operation Seatwave and previously held senior financial and business development roles at Vodafone.
Aksel holds an LLM in International Corporate Taxation of the University of Leiden and an MBA of INSEAD. His personal interests are traveling, which is helpful given the job, Alpine skiing and in his spare time he likes to cook for family and friends and read.
